A 31-year-old Middle Sackville, N.S. man has been charged with voyeurism in connection with an alleged incident at a shopping mall in Dartmouth.

Halifax Regional Police say an 11-year-old boy was using the bathroom at Mic Mac Mall around 4:25 p.m. Monday when the man in the stall next to him allegedly took his photo.

The boy left the bathroom and told his mother, who alerted mall security.

“The little boy did absolutely the right thing,” said Halifax Regional Police spokesperson Theresa Rath. “He went and told his mother immediately, at which point mall security was contacted. They arrived in the washroom, they detained the man, and then we arrived and arrested him.”

The man was arrested and his cellphone seized when police arrived on scene.

The investigation led police to a Middle Sackville, N.S. home Tuesday afternoon, where they executed a search warrant and seized a computer and other electronic storage devices.

Ian Gerald Keddy is due to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on Jan. 3 to face a charge of voyeurism.

The incident remains under investigation.
