Explosions and the smell of smoke prompted the discovery of a torched luxury vehicle just outside Halifax, but locals say it was nothing too far out of the ordinary.

Halifax Regional Police say officers responded to an isolated trail in Harrietsfield, N.S. at around 5 p.m. Saturday after receiving reports of a large explosion near Brunt Road.

"When our officers arrived they found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. No one was injured, there was no one around,” said Staff Sgt. Andrew Matthews of the Halifax police.

The vehicle was a 2009 Porsche Cayenne, which police say was completely destroyed by the time Halifax firefighters put out the blaze and surrounding grass fires.

According to police, the Porsche had been reported stolen by the registered owner.

Now, the investigation is in its early stages, led by officers who specialize in stolen vehicle and arson investigations.

Michael Ingraham has lived just minutes from the trail for the last three years.

He says it’s not uncommon for cars to be found ablaze on the isolated trail — and police say they’ve recovered vehicles there in the past.

"It happens here all the time, so it's expected, almost,” Ingraham said.

He’s among the residents who would like to see the car burning come to an end, but Ingraham says he’s not sure what could be done "other than blocking the road off so they wouldn't be able to get up there and do it."

Police say so far no arrests have been made and they ask anyone with information about the incident to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
