HALIFAX - The Nova Scotia government is poised to conduct a sweeping review of the province's public education system.

Premier Stephen McNeil says it will go beyond the curriculum review promised during the election campaign last fall.

McNeil says the review will also look at the length of the school day, the length of the academic year and the use of technology in classrooms.

The study will be conducted by a group of prominent Nova Scotians, though McNeil didn't say who would be on the panel.

McNeil says the last time the province reviewed its curriculum was 25 years ago.

The terms of the review are scheduled to be announced Wednesday.
