Police in Nova Scotia are investigating a stabbing in Springhill that left a woman facing charges and a man suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP say they were called to a Church Street residence on Saturday at around 9 p.m., where they found a 59-year-old Springhill man who had been stabbed several times.

A 58-year-old Amherst woman was arrested at the scene and now faces charges including aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, police say.

She remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Amherst provincial court Tuesday morning.

Paramedics took the Springhill man to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe that, prior to being stabbed, he may have been involved in the alleged assault of a 69-year-old man in the Church Street residence.

Police say he too suffered a minor stab wound and was taken to hospital by paramedics.

RCMP say these were not random acts and that all parties were known to each other.

Police say more charges are anticipated.
