A Sydney woman whose vehicle was damaged in a bizarre hit-and-run collision two weeks ago is sharing video of the incident in the hopes of catching those responsible.

Katie Hawrylak says she was surprised to find her car damaged when she left her house the morning of Nov. 5.

“I thought, oh my goodness, I have videocameras. I went upstairs and checked them and this is what I saw.”

The video appears to show two vehicles speeding down the street, with one vehicle nudging the other from behind. The lead vehicle then smashes into Hawrylak’s car, which is parked on the street.

“It looks exactly like something you would see on TV that you would never expect to see right in front of your house,” says Hawrylak.

She says the damage to her vehicle is significant and she may need a new one.

“It’s a sizeable deductible and I have to pay for that.”

Police seized evidence from the scene, including a blue novelty licence plate that says ‘The Moose is Loose.’

“Unfortunately, we’re unable to identify any specific information in terms of the licence plate or make and model of the vehicle, but it does appear to be a grey-coloured SUV type vehicle and there was also a two-toned coloured open-box truck.”says Desiree Vassallo of the Cape Breton Regional Police.

Hawrylak says she gave a statement to police the day of the crash but she believes releasing the video to the public will help crack the case.

“I have videotape evidence of a crime. If you have the right technology, I’m sure you can find out who did this.”

Both Police and Hawrylak are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact investigators.
