A Truro-area woman who touched the hearts of many people around the Maritimes has passed away.

Doris Hanna's daughters started a winter garden for their mother in January. Battling lung cancer - which spread to her bones and brain – Hanna told her daughters she would love to see flowers, even if there's snow outside.

Hanna’s daughters made it happen. With the help of family, friends, and even strangers, Hanna's garden continued to grow.

Her daughters say she passed away peacefully Monday morning. They're thanking everyone who helped bring smiles to their mother's face.

Doris Hanna was 73.
