If you’re travelling by foot, or on your bike, and running late, there is a new app to help you get there on time.

Dalhousie University student Uytae Lee has just launched an app called HFX moves in an effort to help simplify navigating your way around Halifax.

Lee is from the West Coast, but he goes to school here on the East Coast.

Over the years, he has found some off the beaten path ways to get around town and he figured he’d share his ideas.

“There's something inherently satisfying or exciting about finding that shortcut,” says Lee.

Lee admits the idea was initially borne out of necessity.

“Running late to class, definitely had to zip across parking lots here and that maybe definitely contributed to it,” admits Lee.

Lee’s app allows users to post their best tips and for others to benefit from their advice.

The app was just launched this week, but people are already signing on.

“We do have a tendency to get familiar with one route, so anything that helps us change things up and make running more fun and interesting is a positive thing for runners in general,” says runner Geri Wallace.

Users can also specify if they want a bike friendly path.

Cyclist Reid White says the short cuts give him a completely different commuter experience.

“You get to meet people more intimately and enjoy the scenery enjoy people and the city,” says White.

The app’s tips come with a warning for users to keep safety in mind. The short cuts may not be accessible at all hours of the day and may not be as well lit as city streets and sidewalk.
