ROTHESAY, N.B. - Fire officials in New Brunswick say a teen boy is recovering after falling through ice while skating on a river.

Platoon Chief Kevin Clynick says the 16-year-old boy was skating alone on the Kennebecasis River around 7:30 p.m. Friday when he fell through the ice.

Clynick says the boy managed to get out of the water and call for help on his cell phone.

He says police were able to track his location using the GPS tracking on the boy's phone.

Clynick says the boy was wet from the chest down and was shivering uncontrollably when police arrived.

He says the teen was put in a police cruiser and covered in blankets and was taken to hospital as a precaution.
