A new website will give high school and post-secondary students access to information about Nova Scotia's 11 universities and colleges.

Launched Tuesday, the idea behind MyNSFuture.ca is to encourage more students to study and stay in the province.

The website provides information on the university application process for students, parents and guidance counsellors and includes a transfer credit guide tab for university students.

The guide allows students to find a course at another university or college and helps them determine if their credits can be used at another school.

Medical student Zachary Forde says the website is quick and easy.

“It can show you that if you're in a second-year biology course, this is the course that you need to change if you're going to go to Acadia (or) if you're going to go to the University of Cape Breton," he said.

Student advocacy group StudentsNS says the website increases the ability for students to make future plans and to design an education that suits their needs.

“I think any exposure they have to university or post-secondary college here gives them a chance of having an employer,” said Nova Scotia Labour Minister Kelly Regan.

Development plans for 2016 will see the creation of an e-transcript system that will allow high school students to send their transcripts electronically to the post-secondary institutions of their choice in the province.
