PORT HAWKESBURY, N.S. - A spokesman for the union representing workers at Nova Scotia's shuttered NewPage mill says officials are about to start talks with a potential operator.

Steve MacDougall of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers union says they'll sit down with officials from Vancouver-based Paper Excellence in Halifax on Thursday.

Four bidders are interested in the idle Point Tupper operation, but only two are interested in keeping it running.

Paper Excellence bought Northern Pulp in Nova Scotia's Pictou county earlier this year.

MacDougall says they haven't heard from the other potential buyer who wants to keep the mill in operation, so they have no idea who it might be.
