Evan Turner suffered a traumatic brain injury after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle last May. After spending almost a year at the children’s hospital in Halifax, Evan has been living at home for four weeks.

Kevin wanted to bring his son home, but because Evan still can’t eat, walk or talk on his own, he needed some help getting there. After their story aired on CTV News, hundreds flocked to an online donations page, donating thousands of dollars, making it possible for the family to provide Evan with things like a van, motorized wheelchair, hospital bed and lift system.

“I've been able to purchase some of the equipment that he's needed. I've been able to make sure that he has all of his supplies,” says Kevin.

Not only is Evan back home, he is also back at school.

“He loves it, he loves it,” says Evan’s father Kevin. “He's on half days, so he comes home at noon every day, but he's expressed that he would like to try full days.”

While Evan will eventually return to the IWK Health Centre for rehab, his family is trying to make his life as normal as possible at home.

With three other children, some might wonder how Evan’s father manages.

“It just has to be done. It's just a routine,” says Kevin.

While there are still many challenges, Kevin says having Evan home makes all the difference.

“I can come home after work, I can make supper, play with the kids, you know, it's just, we're home,” says Kevin.
