The RCMP are asking for the public’s help as they continue to investigate the death of a newborn baby in Prince Edward Island.

Police say caretakers found the baby outside a church in Mount Albion the afternoon of April 12.

An autopsy has been completed and police are awaiting the final report to help determine a cause of death. The baby’s gender is not being released at this time.

Police are still looking for the mother and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

"We are asking the public to let us know if they are aware of any expectant mother who is no longer showing signs of pregnancy and does not have a newborn in their care," said RCMP Staff Sgt. Kevin Baillie.

"We also need to keep in mind that the mother may not necessarily be from P.E.I., so we're asking people to share our request for the public's help on their social media networks for anyone who may match that description and was in P.E.I. around the time of the discovery of the baby's body."

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the RCMP.
