Residents of a multi-unit building in the Hillsborough area of Charlottetown are homeless tonight after a fire on Saturday afternoon left their building with extensive damage.

Police say they received a call around 1:45 p.m. about a fire at 77 Westridge Crescent. They suspect the fire had been burning for some time before that.

No one was injured but some pets are still unaccounted for.

The damage to the building is severe and police say it will need major restoration work before residents can move back in.

While the fire is not believed to be suspicious, police and fire officials are still investigating.
