The PEI Humane Society is hoping to find homes for its surplus of cats. To make sure the high number of male cats and kittens get the care they need, the not-for-profit organization will be hosting a special event called “The Boys Are Back In Town”.

Potential owners can adopt a cat by donation. The Society suggests a minimum donation of $25.

The Society will stop taking cats into its care for two weeks following the event in an attempt to keep their cat numbers to a manageable size. Exceptions may be made in the case of an emergency.

“Our first priority is protecting the health and wellbeing of our entire cat population,” says Acting Shelter Manager Cathy Kenny. “When the cat housing areas are full it is very easy for a small health issue to potentially become a larger one – particularly during this period of heat and humidity we have been experiencing. We need to create space in order to maintain a healthy environment for more cats. Which is why we’re asking anyone considering adding a new cat to their home to make that decision during this event, if they can.”

The Society says that donations will be added to the standard adoption fees and practices required when adopting a cat. These practices include spay/neuter surgery, up-to-date vaccinations, microchip identification and 30 days of complimentary pet health insurance.

“The Boys Are Back In Town” event will be held from Wednesday, July 30 at 11 a.m. to Saturday, August 2 at 4 p.m.
