WEST DEVON, P.E.I. _ Police charged a man after he drove away from officers at a high speed and wove through traffic in western Prince Edward Island.

The Mounties say they responded to an erratic driving complaint about a car heading west on Route 2 in the area of West Devon on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers intercepted the vehicle on Route 2 and pulled it over at 3 p.m., but investigators say when they approached on foot the driver accelerated and fled the scene.

Investigators say the driver wove through traffic and created a hazard for school buses that had just left a local school.

The fleeing vehicle was located a short time later on Route 152 near Profits Corner.

A 32-year-old man from Tyne Valley was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while being pursued, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving while prohibited and impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
