RCMP say 20-year-old Daverico Downey is the victim of the most recent homicide in the Halifax area.

Police say Downey’s body was found on Downey Road early Saturday morning following reports of gun shots being fired.

Anti-violence advocate Quentrel Provo says Downey was his distant cousin.

"It was pretty disturbing to get an early morning call after everything we've been through," said Provo.

Downey’s death is the third homicide in the Halifax area in the past week.

Former Halifax Rainmen star Tyler Richards was found dead in a home in Halifax’s west end on April 17.

Two days later, two men were shot on Gottingen Street. Naricho Clayton, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Richards’ cousin, Ricardo Whynder, was found in serious condition.

Provo has been speaking out about the rash of deadly gun violence.

"I don't think we've ever had a week like this, and it’s just heartbreaking," said Provo. "Three young men under 30 years old, how sad is that?" said Provo.

Police did not say whether charges have been laid or if there are any suspects.

An autopsy will be conducted on Saturday to determine the cause of death.

Provo is planning an End the Violence March for Sunday at 4 p.m., starting Novalea Drive and ending at Grande Parade.

He says enough is enough.

"You’ve got to look deep inside yourself and say, ‘This is not the life I wanted to live,’” said Provo. “Be a man and put down the guns, and let's make a change."

Police are asking anyone who may have information on the incident to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
