LOWER SACKVILLE, N.S. -- An 18-year-old man is facing an assault charge after he allegedly stabbed a man in the face Thursday afternoon in Lower Sackville.

Nova Scotia RCMP say that at approximately 12 p.m., the suspect, who is from Lower Sackville, used a small knife to stab a 40-year-old man in the mouth after meeting with him in the parking lot of a business on Sackville Drive.

The victim was transported to hospital, and police say he was treated and released for what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP say the two men are known to each other and that this was not a random act.

Police say they arrested the 18-year-old man without incident at a residence a short while after the stabbing occurred. He is being held in custody and faces charges of Breach of Conditions and Assault with a Weapon.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
