Halifax Regional Police are investigating a sexual assault in the central part of the city.

Police say a woman was walking north on Gottingen Street towards Cornwallis Street around 2:30 p.m. Monday when she was approached by a man.

She told police the man reached out and touched her in a sexual manner over her clothing.

Officers responded to the scene but were unable to locate the suspect.

He is described as a white man in his 60s. He is five-foot-eight inches tall and was wearing a dark grey parka with the hood up.

This is the second sexual assault reported in the city in less than a week.

Police are also investigating an incident in which a 27-year-old woman was approached by a man in the area of Sackville Street and Bell Road early Saturday morning.

Police allege the man made a sexual comment while he touched himself. They say he then grabbed the woman and pushed her to the ground from behind.

She screamed and fought back, which police say prompted the suspect to flee in the direction of the Cogswell roundabout.

The suspect is described as being roughly five-foot-six inches tall, with a slim build. His ethnicity is unknown but police say he spoke with an accent.

He was wearing a black hoodie, black sweatpants and a dark-coloured toque at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact police.
