A Nova Scotia police officer is being investigated by the province’s Serious Incident Response Team after allegations of domestic violence surfaced.

Police in Bridgewater responded to an impaired driving complaint around midnight Tuesday and they say the driver of the vehicle complained about an assault involving an off-duty officer from the Bridgewater Police Service.

Investigators turned the case over to SIRT, which is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia, including allegations of domestic violence against officers.

Police say the officer in question is currently not working.
