Police say they have concluded their investigation into an alleged sexual assault in Lower Sackville and have determined the incident did not take place.
The RCMP responded to a pathway near the Kinsmen Club and Sackville High School shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 21 after receiving a report that a 37-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted.
The woman told police she had been walking along the trial at First Lake when she was attacked by two men.
A K9 unit was called in to assist officers but they failed to locate the suspects.
The woman told police the suspects had been driving a dark-coloured, two-door car and that they had parked at the Kinsmen Club parking lot.
But police say they have determined there was no validity to the complaint after conducting a thorough investigation into the allegations.
"Reporting a sexual assault can be very difficult, however we want to continue to encourage victims to come forward," said Cpl. Greg Church in a statement. "We take these complaints seriously to protect the citizens we serve."
The investigation is now concluded.
"Given the circumstances, police are not pursing charges of public mischief," said Sgt. Al LeBlanc.
