Police are looking for a suspect after a shooting in Fredericton early Wednesday morning.

Police responded to a report of shots fired on Saunders Street shortly after 4 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.

He was taken to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, where he is being treated.

One neighbour told CTV News they heard what sounded like a firecracker early in the morning.

Investigators say the adult male suspect is still at large but there are no lockdowns in place.

“It is still safe to come and go, but please exercise caution, and report any suspicious activity to police immediately,” said the Fredericton Police Force on its Facebook page.

Police remain on scene in the Saunders Street area as they canvas the neighbourhood.

They say Saunders Street is closed between York and Northumberland and traffic is being diverted.
