Police are warning those living in the Timberlea, N.S., area that five vehicles have been stolen in the past two weeks.

Nova Scotia RCMP say four of the vehicles have been recovered, but were damaged.

“They appear to have been stolen, driven and then abandoned,” said Const. Tammy Lobb of Nova Scotia RCMP. “The public is reminded that this is largely a crime of opportunity, where suspects are often looking to steal items from vehicles, they come across vehicles left unlocked, with keys in them and subsequently steal the vehicles.”

Police are asking citizens to not keep valuables in their vehicles and to keep them locked.

Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to contact Halifax District RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
