From pumpkin-scented soaps to pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin ale, there is no question pumpkin is the flavour of the month.

In recent years, pumpkin appreciation has extended well beyond patches and pies.

Now, nearly every coffee shop features some sort of pumpkin-spiced drink.

“People want that kind of fall feeling, same with Christmas when peppermint is in,” says Miss Lebans, who co-owns a coffee shop in Sydney.

Shops that specialize in bath and beauty products are also jumping on the pumpkin train.

“We have pumpkin buttercream, spiced pumpkin, apple pumpkin,” says gift shop employee Carrie Morrison. “I do love the seeds roasted and the aroma that it gives and I do love the smell of candles.”

Pumpkin popularity has grown to the point that spinoff items are no longer limited to the conventional. Some gourd-themed items are a little outside the box, including cigarettes, seltzer, and dog treats, and Starbucks’ pumpkin spice latte is so prevalent it has its own Twitter account.

While some people can’t get enough of the pumpkin flavour, others feel the trend has gone too far – pumpkin spice marshmallows, anyone?

But whether you love it or hate it, the tide will soon change to cranberries and Christmas before you know it.
