For the second time in the past few years, a rare blue lobster has been discovered off the coast of Cape Breton.

Life-long fisherman Blaine Marsh nabbed the brightly-coloured crustacean Friday off the coast of Alder Point. Marsh comes from a family with three generations of lobster fisherman, but all say they’ve never seen one like this before.

“I thought it was pretty awesome, actually. Never saw it before,” said the fisherman’s son, Nicholas Marsh.

“It’s delightful,” said his mother, Mary Marsh. “My granddaughter has named him Blueberry.”

‘Blueberry’ was returned to the ocean from where it came Sunday afternoon.

However, those who caught a glimpse say they won’t be quick to forget the curious creature.

“It’s pretty cool that we got to experience seeing a blue lobster. Not a lot of people do,” said Blaine’s nephew, Chris MacLean. “I think it’s pretty crazy.”

The probability of catching a blue lobster is listed as about one in two million -- odds that certainly worked in Blueberry’s favour, allowing him to avoid the dinner table thanks to his bright blue shell.
