The RCMP have released the identity of a man killed on Nova Scotia’s Highway 103 near Liverpool.

Police responded to the two-vehicle collision around 4 p.m. Monday.

They say an eastbound car crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a large truck.

Investigators believe the truck driver tried to swerve out of the way of the car, but there wasn't enough time.

The driver of the car, 70-year-old Alan Wayne McTavish of Bridgewater, died at the scene.

Highway 103 was closed between Exits 19 and 20 for several hours Monday as police investigated the scene.

It has since re-opened to traffic.

There is no word on a cause at this time.
