MONTAGUE, P.E.I. -- A Roman Catholic priest says a double-homicide has created a deep sadness and left a sense of shock in the small Prince Edward Island community where a man and his son were found dead earlier this week.

The RCMP identified Herbert Brent McGuigan, 68, and his son Brendon Patrick McGuigan, 39, as the two men whose bodies were found in a shingled house on a quiet road near Montague in eastern P.E.I. on Wednesday night.

Rev. Gerard Chaisson, the priest for the parishes of St. Paul's in Sturgeon and St. Mary's in Montague, says about 150 families who live in St. Paul's are struggling with the news.

"As you can imagine, people are really in shock. It's a tight-knit community. ... We know everybody in each of the parishes," he said.

"This is a real tragedy and people are still trying to get their heads around what happened the other evening."

Chaisson has visited the families of the two dead men and the man accused in their deaths.

He said Herbert McGuigan is survived by his wife and Brendon McGuigan and his wife, who is pregnant, have three children.

There is also an extended family in the area who attend St. Paul's.

"They are very faithful people. Good living people," said Chaisson.

"I visited with both families and I'm telling you it was very difficult to go and be with them. They have so many questions and there is so much deep pain and they're really broken," he said in a telephone interview.

"I tried to give them a sense of hope and prayed with them that God will give them peace in these tragic times."

Investigators say they responded to a call at the McGuigan home at about 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, but have declined to provide further details about the case.

Autopsies are being conducted.

Alfred Guy Vuozzo, 46, of the Montague area has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Vuozzo was brought before Georgetown provincial court on Thursday evening after being arrested earlier in the day without incident.

He has been remanded into custody until a court appearance scheduled for next week.

Chaisson says Vuozzo is a parishioner at St. Mary's in Montague and that he lived with his mother not far from the church.
