The RCMP are trying to find out what happened to a cyclist who was found seriously injured on a road in northeastern New Brunswick.

Emergency responded to Avenue du Portage in Grande-Anse, N.B. shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

When they arrived, they found a 57-year-old man lying on the ground near his motorized bicycle.

Police say the man sustained serious injuries and was in and out of consciousness. He was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to a Moncton hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators are trying to determine what happened to the man.

They say he was wearing a dark-coloured plaid shirt and riding a green mountain bike with a small gas motor and black gas tank at the time of the incident.
