Police are looking for two suspects after a 37-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted on a trail in Lower Sackville, N.S. Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to the trail at First Lake around 6:30 a.m.

The woman told police she had been walking along the trail when she was attacked by two men.

A K9 unit was called in to assist officers but they failed to locate the suspects.

The woman was taken to hospital but there is no word on her condition at this time.

The walking trail runs along the edge of First Lake and is located close to houses, a daycare and Sackville High School, and the incident has put area residents on edge.

“It doesn’t sit well. It’s horrible to hear that it’s happened right in your backyard,” says parent Megan Drew. “I live right around the corner too and I have young kids.”

“I would imagine a lot of the young women now would be very fearful to be out alone after dark, whereas before they could just likely stroll around and never have a second thought of something like that happening,” says neighbour Dan Doherty.

Halifax District RCMP say the integrated sexual assault team has been assigned to the investigation.

A description of the suspects has not been released but the woman told police her alleged attackers were driving a two-door car that was parked at the Kinsmen Centre.

Police say they expect to release more information to the public on Wednesday.
