MOUNT ALBION, P.E.I. -- Police in Prince Edward Island are describing the recent death of a newborn as a homicide.

The infant's body was found April 12 outside a church in Mount Albion.

The RCMP's Major Crime Unit has released few details about the case as it is still under investigation.

The Mounties issued a statement today saying they have received tips from the public about the case.

However, they are asking others to come forward with information.

In particular, they are asking if anyone is aware of an expectant mother who is no longer showing signs of pregnancy and does not have a newborn in their care.

"Please don't make any assumptions," RCMP Sgt. Leanne Butler said in a statement, which referred to the newborn as Baby Albion. "If you have any information on who the mother could possibly be, we need to know."
