The RCMP say preliminary results indicate human remains found in Moncton last month are those of a male.

A person walking along Wheeler Boulevard spotted the skeletal remains in a field near the Church Street overpass just before 4 p.m. on Dec. 22, 2012.

Police say the person’s age and a cause of death have yet to be determined.

Further DNA expertise and dental record checks are being done in an effort to identify the man.

There is no sign of foul play at this time, but investigators say it has not been ruled out.

The Codiac RCMP are working closely with the families of known missing persons in the area as they attempt to identify the remains.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP at 857-2400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
