FREDERICTON -- The New Brunswick government has forwarded a report to the RCMP on the possible misuse of the government-owned Larry's Gulch fishing lodge.
A statement from the Office of the Attorney General says an independent third body was retained to investigate uses of the lodge and whether public funds were used to support political goals.
It says based on the findings of the report, the decision was made to refer the matter to the RCMP.
In February, Acadie Nouvelle newspaper reported that between 2012 and 2014 there were three entries on the guest list for Larry's Gulch for meetings of the Regional Development Corporation and Invest NB, but didn't list any attendees from either entity.
The attendees did include then-premier David Alward, his closest political staff and members of the Progressive Conservative Party.
In a statement, Progressive Conservative Leader Bruce Fitch said the government is trying to deflect attention away from other issues.
In July, Anne Bertrand, the province's access to information and privacy commissioner said two senior government officials altered the 2013 guest list with the intention of concealing information.
Her 39-page report did not recommend charges be laid and did not name the two officials who were both deputy ministers at the time.
