The RCMP believe a body found near a wharf in northeastern New Brunswick is that of a missing 81-year-old man.

Police said Monday morning they were looking for Arger Albert, who was last seen around 1 p.m. Sunday in Caraquet, N.B.

Albert left his home on chemin du Portage to go to the Caraquet wharf, but he didn’t return home when expected.

Family members found his car parked at the wharf but couldn’t locate Albert.

Police launched an extensive search for Albert. An RCMP helicopter and underwater recovery team assisted in the search, along with the Caraquet Fire Department and Acadie-Chaleur Ground Search and Rescue team.

Search crews discovered a man’s body in the Baie de Caraquet, east of the wharf, around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Members of the RCMP dive team recovered the body, which police believe is that of the missing man.

An autopsy will be performed to confirm his identity and help determine the cause of the death.

Foul play is not suspected.
