CHARLOTTETOWN - Excitement is building on Prince Edward Island, as Islanders prepare to welcome Shania Twain.

Twain is set to take the stage in Charlottetown Saturday, in front of tens of thousands of fans.

“When we saw her before, the stands were filled with people of all ages and everybody was just absolutely elated to be there,” says fan Paul MacDougald. “She is just such a beautiful singer and she is such a beautiful person as well.”

The show’s director says there is lots in store for Twain’s first show in Atlantic Canada in 15 years and her first ever concert on the Island.

“We have basically taken her Vegas show and put it on the road, so it’s a big show. It’s the full band, six dancers, and Shania,” says show director Raj Kapoor.

Despite all the hype, not everyone is excited to see Shania come to the Island.

“I don’t like a whole lot about Shania Twain, because she is my husband’s fantasy,” says Murielle Sutherland.

“And I like everything about Shania Twain,” says Murielle’s husband Lloyd. “I think she is very talented, of course, and she has gone through a difficult time in her life in the last little while, but she has come back better than ever.”

Twain’s show will be the first major concert at the Charlottetown Events Grounds. Promoter Andre Hudon says ticket sales have been steady.

“Ticket sales are actually doing very well,” says Hudon. “We are around the 22,000 mark. There are plenty of tickets still available at the box office.”

The show also includes another big name Canadian artist, Corey Hart, along with the Island’s own Trinity Bradshaw, who is opening the show.

Police are warning that traffic could be a challenge on the day of the show and there won’t be parking on major roads surrounding the venue.
