A police investigation has ruled two suspicious deaths in Dartmouth a murder-suicide.

Police found the bodies of a husband and a wife in a home on Caledonia Road in the early hours of Friday morning.

“Officers responded shortly after midnight to conduct a well-being check on the occupants of the residence after receiving information that some of the residents there may be in distress,” said Cst. Pierre Bourdages, spokesperson for Halifax Regional Police.

Police say 54-year-old Sejad Hadzic killed his 53-year-old wife, Bahrija, before taking his own life.

Neighbours were shocked to hear the news.

“I was up at five this morning and noticed the police down the street, and when we came out to start shovelling our neighbour came over and she said they found two dead bodies in the home,” said one resident, who asked not to be identified.

Area residents said the pair were a quiet couple, always friendly, with two grown children.

Police expressed condolences to the family.
