Turns-out a suspicious package that shut-down a busy street in Moncton for a good-part of Friday afternoon was a false alarm.

The package turned-up on the eighth floor of a building that houses the offices of the Consul General of France.

The building was evacuated and a one block radius around it was quickly shut-down.

Some employees were allowed to leave a couple of hours after the incident began.

Specialized police teams - including one from Halifax - later determined the package was not an actual threat, but declined to offer further details.

The streets re-opened Friday evening.
