SHEDIAC, N.B. - The New Brunswick government is twinning a busy highway in the province.

Federal and provincial funding will be used to expand Route 11 between Route 15 and the Shediac River.

Premier Brian Gallant says Route 11 is a key transportation corridor and the work should improve the movement of goods.

The province's 2015-16 capital budget allocated 19.2 million dollars to begin the project.

The first phase of the project includes twinning 6.8 kilometres of the highway from Route 15 to the south side of the Shediac River and a new interchange.

The Route 11 twinning project was selected to receive funding for some the eligible costs under a federal building plan.
