Three Cape Breton Regional Police officers have been suspended, but the police force isn’t saying why.

CTV News has learned that Greg Livingston, Jerome Kelly and Roberta Kelly have been suspended with pay.

The Nova Scotia Government & General Employees Union (NSGEU) identified the officers, but did not provide reasons behind the decisions.

A source tells CTV News that the suspensions have to do with the ongoing criminal matters involving another regional police officer, Const. Wade Lavin.

Lavin is currently standing trial on forgery charges after emails were sent to the media under another officer's name, alleging misuse of police vehicles and credit cards.

Lavin faces a separate charge of uttering a threat to cause death or bodily harm after an alleged incident in July that police have said is not related to his duties as an officer.

CTV News has also learned that one of the newly-suspended officers, Jerome Kelly, is the president of the NSGEU local representing Cape Breton Regional Police officers.

Greg Livingston a union vice-president.

The union local would be the same one representing Wade Lavin as his criminal matters play out in court.

Lavin is suspended with pay from his police duties pending the outcome of the charges against him.

Cape Breton Regional Police have yet to comment on the matter.
