Three young women were arrested in Dartmouth last night in connection with an assault and attempted robbery at a Metro Transit bus terminal.

Police responded to the terminal on Nantucket Street around 6 p.m. Monday.

They say three female youths tried to steal a backpack from a 21-year-old woman.

The trio allegedly assaulted the woman, kicking her and punching her while she lay on the ground.

The victim suffered minor injuries in the attack.

Police say the suspects fled the area on foot, without the backpack.

They were quickly identified and arrested a short time after the incident.

Police say two females are charged with robbery and breaching conditions, while a third is charged with assaulting a police officer and obstruction of justice.

They are due to appear in Halifax youth court Tuesday.
