Nova Scotia’s largest health authority is on the search for qualified nursing professionals, and that search has lead to New Brunswick.

Capital Health is placing full page ads in provincial papers, looking for ideal candidates.

It’s an encouraging sign for first year UNB nursing student Rebecca St. Croix.

“It’s kind of nice to know that there are jobs in more than one area.”

There are full page newspaper ads announcing immediate full and part time positions for nurses in their ER, Intensive Care units, and operating room.

These ads are running in the aftermath of job cuts being announced at one of New Brunswick’s two health authorities.

There will be 400 jobs disappearing over the next three years at the Vitalité Health Network, with cuts also expected within the Horizon Health Network, all leading to a provincial budget exactly two weeks away.

The Department of Health had no comment on these ads running today, nor did the province’s nursing union.

Capital Health says they’re trying to fill the retirements.

“We’re advertising across the country,” says Bruce English of the Capital Health District Authority. “It wasn’t directed at New Brunswick, that’s just the first place we’re going to be.”

The ads don’t state what level experience they’d like new hires to have, but for those who are still in school, the ads alone are encouraging.

“It’s kind of a stress to get a job in general,” says nursing student, Rebecca St. Croix. “It’s nice to be comforted that there are already ads for us waiting.”
