The Toronto Maple Leafs are back at the BMO Centre in Bedford, N.S. for a second year for training camp.

While the rink was filled with cheers on Friday, the number of fans that showed up for camp is lower than last year.

Fans lined up before midnight in anticipation of cheering for their beloved Toronto Maple Leafs.

"We’re here because my daughter's a big Toronto Maple Leafs fan and we're standing in line so she can see the Toronto Maple Leafs training camp which starts tomorrow," says fan Debra Buckley.

Only 500 tickets are available each day to watch the Maple Leafs at training camp, but unlike last year's sell-out crowds, the 500 person mark has yet to be hit as of Friday.

"It’s still a school day so not all the kids are out - those things happen but we expect a big weekend coming up," says BMO Centre general manager Bill Cruickshank.

Fans say they're excited as the Maple Leafs kick off their 100th anniversary year.

"It’s entertaining, it’s nice to see what the team is going to look like, some new faces, guys that weren't here last year," says fan Darryl Pottie.

Some Maple Leaf players took time off the ice to meet with fans and sign autographs.

"It's really exciting; I just want to say thanks to Halifax for having us. Everyone's been so welcoming; it's just fun to be here watching the fans come out. It's cool to see we have fans all across the country,” says Maple Leafs defensemen Jake Gardiner.

After training camp Friday, the players took a break to visit the crew of HMCS St. John's.

“It’s fantastic! I’ve always wanted to meet Wendel Clark, he was one of my favourite players growing up,” says Sub-Lt. Ryan Howden.

As training camp continues through the weekend, fans will also be able to enjoy an alumni game on Sunday and a pre-season game against the Ottawa Senators Monday.
