A Conservative MP has condemned a series of threats made against a mosque in Charlottetown.

Joe Daniel, MP for Don Valley East, told the House of Commons on Tuesday that the federal government, "strongly condemns these attacks that have been terrorizing the whole community."

A spokesman for the Muslim community in Charlottetown has said that last week a wine bottle filled with gasoline was placed on the mosque's front steps along with a note saying, "Defeat Jihad."

In August, a truck belonging to a contractor working on the building was set ablaze during the night, and last year a pig's head was left nailed to a post as the new mosque was under construction.

Zain Esseghaier, a teacher and a spokesman for the Muslim Society of P.E.I., says police are investigating all three incidents, but so far no arrests have been made.

Daniel said in Parliament that the threats against the Masjid Dar As-Salam Mosque are promoting hatred.

"Canada is recognized as a peaceful and tolerant country where people from around the world aspire to live," he said.

"The individuals who are threatening the Muslim community in P.E.I. have betrayed our national pride."

"Shame on them."
