Two Aurora aircraft filled with 80 personnel are on their way to the Middle East as of Friday night. Crew and support from CFB Greenwood will be based in Kuwait.

“I feel good for them,” says Captain Bruce Armstrong. “I know definitely they're going to go over there and serve a good purpose, do something important for the country.”

Countless missions have flown out of CFB Greenwood since it was established in 1942. Retired Major and pilot Andre Eleiff flew many of them and knows the duty attached to missions like this.

“It's a job,” says Eleiff. “That's what they're trained for. If the government says that's what you have to do, do it.”

Three aircraft we geared for the trip, but only two will make the journey.

Security is always tight at the base, but with the recent events in Ottawa and Quebec, security has been even tighter.

“We have to do it to protect our own and make sure everything's going to be ok on the home front,” says Armstrong. He adds that Canada can’t stand by with what has been happening around the world lately.
