RCMP in Nova Scotia say two people are facing charges in connection with the death of a 65-year-old man from Eskasoni.

Police say John Johnson passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on June 22.

RCMP began investigating his death on June 25, after being contacted by the medical examiner’s office.

Police say Johnson was suffering from a number of medical issues when he arrived at the hospital.

Their investigation revealed that Johnson was in need of daily assistance but police say he was not being cared for properly.

Marcella Marie Johnson, 53, and Peter Young, 56, have each been charged with criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide the necessities of life.

Police say Johnson and Young are set to appear in Sydney provincial court on Wednesday.

The incident remains under investigation.
