The fate of a former Nova Scotia paramedic facing charges, which include sexual assault, is now in the hands of a judge.

A Windsor courtroom heard closing arguments on Tuesday in the lengthy trial of 47-year-old James Keats.

The Kentville man is charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of breach of trust stemming from alleged incidents in May 2013 and September 2012.

It was on those two occasions that Keats is alleged to have assaulted a 72-year-old Hants County woman.

The woman says Keats fondled her while she was being transported to hospital and, on the second occasion, assaulted her at her home while other paramedics were tending to her husband in another room.

Keats was arrested in 2013 and fired from his job in late 2014.

His trial, which began last September, while resume in Kentville on June 24 when Keats returns to court for a verdict.

More legal trouble likely lies ahead for Keats.

Other patients have come forward alleging sexual assault while under his care in incidents dating back to between 2010 and 2013.

Those charges have not yet gone to trial.
