One of the world’s most talented violinists has travelled to Nova Scotia for his first Canadian performance.

Sergei Krylov has played to audiences of thousands and accompanied prestigious symphony orchestras all over the world.

On Friday, the Russian violinist performed to an audience of children in Lunenburg, N.S.

"Sergei in my opinion is one of the world's great violinists," said Burt Wathen, Artistic Director of the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance.

Krylov is in Lunenburg serving as a resident instructor for students at the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance.

"It's been very intense. He's very demanding in the best possible way, so I really feel like my limits have been pushed" says Arlan Vriens, a Masters Music student at Memorial University.

Krylov says he is passionate about teaching music, whether it’s to graduate students or three-year-olds.

"Somebody has to transmit to them emotions, through the violin, through piano, through orchestra, through the music," said Krylov.

Organizers say they hope concerts like this one will help ignite a passion for music in their young audiences.

Krylov first picked up the violin at age five, played his first concerto on stage at age six, and was playing with an orchestra by ten years old. His mother is a musician, while his father is a violin-maker who made the instrument that Krylov plays today.

"It was not my decision, my mother recognized in me musical talent," said Krylov.

Krylov calls Lunenburg a paradise and says he intends to return.

"In my personal life, everything is going so fast that really, I stay here for a week and this week is really when you can breathe normally," said Krylov.

After this week, Krylov flies home to Europe for his next performance, but his visit to Lunenburg will be remembered for years to come.
