DINGWALL, N.S. - RCMP in Cape Breton are investigating the death of a scuba diver from Ontario.

Police say 41-year-old John "Craig" Lowe from Mississauga, Ont., was diving alone in the Aspy Bay area, near the northern tip of Cape Breton.

He was reported missing Saturday evening.

The coast guard, local fishermen, volunteer fire departments and community members all assisted in the search.

Police say the diver's body was found shortly before midnight, in about four metres of water, a short distance away from his boat, which was anchored 300 metres off shore.

The province's medical examiner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
