The mother of a promising young basketball star recently murdered in Halifax says her family is coping aswell as can be expected.

“We're all still very emotional, very hurt and can't seem to get past it,” said Janice Richards, mother of Tyler Richards who was killed in April.

Richards was a top rated basketball player, having played at one time for the Halifax Rainmen.

He was shot to death in his west-end Halifax home on April 17.

Seven weeks later, police are seeking tips, perhaps as a result of evidence potentially found in Dartmouth.

“We're looking for anyone who has information about some suspicious activity that occurred in a wooded area at the end of Mountain Avenue in Dartmouth,” said Halifax Policespokesperson Lauren Leal.

Two days after Richards’ death, 23-year-old Naricho Clayton was killed on Gottingen Street. Police now believe the killer got away in an older model, dark-coloured Chrysler.

They're also looking for the driver of a red and white Mini Cooper seen in the area.

Police are also interested in speaking with a man who crossed Gottingen Street on April 19 just before the shooting started.

Convicted murderer Tyrell Dechamp was arrested in Ontario ten days after the murder. He remains in custody.

Halifax police have not named a person of interest, but have suggested the two murders are connected.

Janice Richards says she's satisfied investigators are making progress.

“He loved me. He took care of me the best he could and always tried to make sure I was safe and happy,” said Richards. “He was the best son a mother could want, he truly was."
