The RCMP say human remains found near Renous, N.B. are those of a missing man they believe was murdered.

Wayne Rattray was last seen at his Walker Road home in Tilley, N.B. the morning of March 2. A short time later, police and fire crews responded to a fire at his home, but 59-year-old Rattray was nowhere to be found.

His home was destroyed in the fire, which was deemed suspicious.

Five days later, Rattray’s pickup truck was found engulfed in flames on a lane off Highway 109 in Three Brooks, N.B. That fire was also deemed suspicious.

Police searched the areas surrounding Rattray’s home and where his truck was found and an RCMP helicopter conducted aerial searches, but they failed to locate him.

On May 21, some people found a body on an island in the Renous River while they were canoeing.

Police confirm the body is that of Rattray and they believe he is the victim of a homicide.

Anyone with information about his death is asked to contact police.
