Men around the world are growing moustaches of all shapes and sizes in support of a prostate cancer awareness campaign called Movember.

Debbie MacRury may be follically-challenged, but she isn’t letting that fact keep her from participating in the campaign, which supports a cause near and dear to her heart.

MacRury’s father died of prostate cancer three years ago and she has been donning a moustache in his memory ever since.

“The more awareness that we can bring to this disease, I think that’s a very important thing for us to do, and if all I have to do is put on a moustache, that’s pretty easy,” she says.

MacRury will sport a different fake moustache for each of the 30 days in Movember.

“My moustache really didn’t have a whole lot going on there, I needed to add a little bit to it,” she says. “I have a good stash of moustaches.”

MacRury’s stash includes a blue moustache, which she wore to Tuesday’s Prostate Cancer Awareness Breakfast in Sydney, and a bright yellow one, which she wore when she was crowned ‘Miss Movember 2013’ by Movember Canada.

And, she even donned a duster a day early, on Halloween.

“I was at the Credit Union the other day and I had a gentleman turn around and say, ‘you look spectacular,’” says MacRury. “It’s just that type of response, people are either inquisitive, or they know what I’m doing.”

Prostate cancer affects one in eight Canadian men.
