Police in Charlottetown are looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck and injured a pedestrian before fleeing the scene last week.

Charlottetown Police Services says the car was travelling west when it struck the pedestrian near the intersection of Richard Drive and Doncaster Avenue around 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 4. Police say the pedestrian was walking along the east side of the road when he was struck from behind.

The 54-year-old Charlottetown man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries.

Police are now trying to track down the driver and vehicle. They believe the small, dark-coloured sedan would have sustained noticeable damage to its front end.

Investigators say evidence collected at the scene suggests the vehicle may have been a Toyota Corolla, possibly a 2007 to 2012 model. They have released a photo of the car they believe was involved in the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has video from the area is asked to contact Charlottetown Police Services at 902-629-4172 or PEI Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
